Valencia, coming out of a 0-0 tie with Malaga, is expected to be the favorite in the match.

Valencia Manager Juan Antonio Pizzi brings intensity as billionaire waits in wings, The Guardian reports.
"I was pleased with the intensity and we dominated the play - which is what I want us to do," Pizzi said after his last match.

Espanyol, coming out of a 1-0 win over Celta de Vigo, is expected to be the underdog in the match.
Espanyol Manager Javier Aguirre faces a four-game ban, Football Espana reports.
"The Competition Committee will meet on Wednesday to decide if Aguirre's comments were abusive, insulting and derogatory," the website reports.

"A four-game ban is the minimum punishment the former Zaragoza boss will face if what he said is found to be derogatory, starting with that evening's Copa del Rey fixture at Alcorcon."

Real Madrid vs. Granada: Date, online TV, Time, and more Info

Once again, Real Madrid are within striking distance of La Liga leaders Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. With the two league leaders drawing against one another on January 11 and each drawing once since, Real Madrid has moved just a point off the lead.

Los Blancos have now won eight straight games in La Liga competition, and they should keep on rolling against an overmatched Granada side. The visitors are no pushover, of course—they're a respectable 10th in La Liga and have earned more points on the road (14) than they have at home (10).

Just don't expect that trend to continue against Real Madrid.

one hand, Aston Villa will come into their game with some confidence. After all, when last these teams met, Liverpool beat the Villains by a 1-0 score, but Aston Villa was a late Christian Benteke penalty attempt away from earning a draw.

Instead, Simon Mignolet rose to the challenge and made a huge save, preserving the victory.

On the other hand, that game was at Villa Park. And Luis Suarez was still suspended. And Aston Villa come into this match having lost six of eight games. And, well, Liverpool have been playing excellent football since and have won seven of nine.

So maybe the Villains won't be feeling so great about this matchup after all.

Newcastle is at the back of the pack in the race for a spot in a European spot. They sit in eighth place, one spot behind Manchester Untied, with 33 points. They’re looking to collect another three against a struggling West Ham United squad who find themselves barely outside the relegation zone.

“They’ve had a couple of bad results, but having said all of that they’re still in the top half of the league,” West Ham assistant manager Neil McDonald said, via ESPN FC.

“They’re still a very, very good team who’ve got some exciting, dangerous players. We’ve done our homework on them, we’ve got a game plan for them, we know their strengths and weaknesses and we have to exploit those weaknesses.

“It goes without saying that it would be six points out of two games and that’s certainly what we’re trying to do.”

Hull City sits in tenth place with 23 points. A win and three points won’t advance them in the table, they’re seven points behind Southampton. Still, they’d like to collect three points against Norwich City to stay there and hopefully close the gap. Hull City is five sports ahead of Norwich, but only three points showing how tight the league is at the bottom.

“It shows how tight it is in this division. But you can’t hide facts and the fact is we have not won for eight games including cup games,” Norwich boss Chris Hughton said, via ESPN FC. ”There’s no doubt it’s a big game. I think the fact that we’re playing at home is important and that we’re playing a team who are not too far above us in the division who have been deemed to have had a very good season so far.

“It’s also a big game for us because we want to improve on our form. We’re disappointed with where we are this particular moment.”

The race for the bottom of the table is even tighter than the race for the top of it. There are six teams at the bottom of the table within three points of one another and eight within four points. Crystal Palace is at the bottom right now with 17 points, the same as Sunderland who hold an edge in goal differential. They’re looking to get a win at home against Stoke City to climb out of the bottom.

For Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis, it is a chance to get some revenge against his former team.

“It is always about the three points,” Pulis said. ”Those memories will stay with me, the area and the people I met, not just around the football club.

“Ourselves and Sunderland were cut off at one stage. Sunderland have come back and we have come back at it. What we have to do is make sure you push on from there and that is the important thing. We are looking at all areas and we need to strengthen in all areas.

“We have got injuries we need to deal with, but I think we need to get players in to help us. We haven’t done it yet but we certainly need to.”

The Sunderland squad is looking to get some much needed points against Southampton. Unfortunately they’re playing a team that is in the top half of the table. Defender Phil Bardsley said spirits were down under former Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio, but new manager Gus Poyet doesn’t want to talk about it.

“I was not here six months ago, so I can’t comment on how it was six months ago,” Poyet said, via ESPN FC. ”But I understand as a normal person that when a team is not winning, there is a mental side that you need to work on, and the way we are, the way we treat the players, I knew that sooner or later, the atmosphere would be different.

“It doesn’t mean that you are going to win football games, but it’s the way we are. Again, I am not comparing with anyone because there are so many styles of football, so many different ways of coaching and dealing with players, and no-one is more right than any other in saying that is the way to win games.

“I believe in my way.”

Real Madrid will try to keep pace with the top clubs in La Liga with a favorable matchup against Real Betis.

Still, there is enough talent on the roster to believe they can pull off an upset with the right motivation. The crowd should be full, and the players should respond to give Real Madrid all they can handle in this competitive battle.

Karim Benzema and Jese scored for Real Madrid as they cruised to a 2-0 win over Osasuna in the first leg of the Round of 16 matchup in the Copa del Rey. Now they will look to officially punch their ticket to the quarter-finals with another strong performance.

The Blancos have been playing well since returning from the holiday break. They have won all three matches in 2014 by a combined score of 6-0. If they can maintain that defensive form in the second leg, they will easily move on to the next round.

Osasuna hope to make life more difficult on the Real back line than they did in the first match. After playing a conservative style in the opening leg in an attempt to return home with a chance to advance, the Rojillos must now take more chances to at least put pressure on the Blancos.

Aston Villa vs. Arsenal: Date, Time, online TV Info and more

Arsenal head to Villa Park on Monday, Jan. 13 knowing they need to take a full three points from Aston Villa in order to end Matchday 21 at the top of the table.

Now we can see if Aston Villa have Arsenal's number, or if they simply caught the Gunners on the right day. Of course, Arsenal made the big transfer splash fans were craving since that match as they added Mesut Ozil. So it's going to be a different Arsenal team that Villa faces.

My guess is Aston Villa will see a much improved Arsenal team from the last match.

s good as Liverpool have been this season, a trip to Britannia Stadium to face Stoke City is no easy task for any team. The Potters have lost just once in their home digs, winning four and drawing five times.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have taken just 12 of a possible 30 points on the road this season. The Reds have been far more dangerous at Anfield.

Of course, Liverpool will feel confident that their second-ranked attack (46 goals on the season) will find some joy against a Stoke defense that has conceded 30 goals. And the Potters will feel confident that they can bunker down and at least earn a point at home. It should be fun.

Newcastle United is hosting Manchester City on Sunday. City sits in second place, just one point behind league-leading Arsenal while United sits in eighth place. Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini knows they’ll have a tough match on their hands.

“Of course it will be a real fight,” Pellegrini said, via Sky Sports. “Newcastle in the last two games have lost, but when they lost against Arsenal one or two weeks ago they were playing very well and they were fighting for the first position in the table.

With a win on Sunday, Manchester City would move to the top of the table at least temporarily.

The first half of the La Liga season has been building toward the upcoming matchup between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

These two squads have dominated the Spanish league all year, each earning 16 wins and a draw in 18 matches. Although Barcelona have the slight advantage in goal differential to remain in first place, Atletico Madrid have stayed right in the race with the reigning league champions.

A win for either side could give it a leg up heading into the second half of the season.

Then again, the players do not want to put too much pressure on the match. According to Liam Newman of Goal.com, Cesc Fabregas recently said, "It's not a game that will decide the league, but will give the winner confidence to win."

Whether the winner of this match goes on to secure a trophy at the end remains to be seen. What we do know is that this battle will be a major factor going forward until the clubs meet again on the last day of the season.

Manchester United has climbed closer to the top of the table sitting in seventh place with 34 points. They’re just 5 points out behind fourth place Liverpool and one of those coveted top four spots. United is counting on three points in a home match up against a team in the bottom half of the table. They have yet to win a game in 2014, going 0-3 this month in a match in the Premier League, FA Cup and Capital One Cup.

Unfortunately, United will be without striker Wayne Rooney.

“We have sent Wayne away on a hot weather break,” said United boss David Moyes. ”His groin has not quite recovered yet. We have sent a fitness coach with him. He’s away with the family. Hopefully we will get him fit for Chelsea.”

Robin van Persie is also out for the game.

“Robin is not available,” said Moyes. ”He is going to be a little while. We are doing everything we can to get him back as quickly as we can.”

Tottenham Hotspur has slipped in the table a bit falling to sixth place and out of contention for a spot in a European tournament. The good news is they’re one-point out of fifth and two points out of fourth place.

Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe announced a transfer to Toronto FC later this spring.

“Jermain has been immense. He is one of the best strikers this league has ever seen,” Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood said, via ESPN FC. ”His scoring record for club and country is second to none and long may that continue. I see him still having a future for England in the World Cup in the summer.

“I think he would (still get in the squad). That instinct of scoring goals is never going to leave Jermain Defoe. He needs to wait until his legs have gone and they’re far from gone at the moment.”

Southampton is hanging around in the top half of the table in ninth with 27 points. No matter what the result is on Saturday, they’ll stay there. They’d still like to collect three points to keep up with the clubs ahead of them.

For West Bromwich Albion, it is assistant Keith Downing’s last game as interim manager.

“It’s exciting times and an appointment that’s gone full circle,” Downing said, via ESPN FC. ”I’m pleased it got settled and there’s someone in place on an 18-month contract, which brings the stability that’s needed.

“It’s been unsettling, particularly in the last week with a lot of rumors flying around. The players try to get on with things and I wasn’t sure if I was focusing on the Southampton game or whether the appointment was going to be made earlier.”

Fulham is looking to get a win and three points at home against a Sunderland side that sits at the bottom of the English Premier League table. Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen has suggest that Bryan Ruiz could leave the club before the January transfer window closes.

“The only progress in the transfer market that I can reveal to you is that we have allowed Bryan Ruiz to talk to a number of clubs to see if something can come out of that,” Meulensteen said, via ESPN FC. “That is really as far as all the progress is concerned.

“I wouldn’t call his signing a mistake because at that time it was probably for Fulham the right choice and the right investment. Don’t get me wrong, he is a very good player. I’ve come in, I’ve looked at the squad, worked with these players, I’ve picked my teams on what I think are the right reasons and motivations, but I can also understand Bryan’s point of view.

“He is a good player, has a World Cup coming up and he obviously needs to play, but I can’t, like with any other player, guarantee that.”

Everton is sitting in fifth place on the cusp of being in the coveted top four spot. They’re just one point behind their Merseyside rivals, Liverpool, who sit in fourth place with 39 points. Everton is hoping a win over Norwich City can move them into the top four, at least temporarily until Liverpool plays.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez says right-back Seamus Coleman could earn a new contract this summer for his stellar play despite being under contract till June 2017.

“I’m sure at the end of the season we will look at his contract. His role in the team is growing. He is getting more important,” Martinez told the Daily Mail.

“He is happy at Everton and has a long-term contract but I always said that players that do well and perform, it is my intention to sit down in the summer and reassess. That could be bad for everyone with big contracts as well! He deserves a reward. He has been terrific.

“He has created at least two good opportunities in every game and has been getting better in taking those chances and is getting better. He is getting stronger in the build-up play, in the positional play, and growing as a player. He is a young man but the sky is the limit.”

Cardiff City Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær said he is happy with his team's quality and style of playing, BBC Sports reports.
"I have a solid foundation here but it's a long season," Solskjaer said, according to the site.
"The quality is there. We have got loads of quality to work with and then maybe some additions to blend in."
West Ham United, coming out of a 2-1 loss to Fulham, is expected to be the favorite in the match.
West Ham United Sam Allardyce said his players could not cope with playing against Manchester City, The Independent reports.
"Yes there's times when it's good and times when it's not so good," Allardyce said, according to the site.
"When it's not so good you have to draw on your strengths to guide the players through."

Chelsea are exactly where they were expected to be when the season began. Though they haven't been able to knock Arsenal off their table-leading perch, the Blues are within striking distance, just two points behind in third place.

While fellow promoted clubs such as Cardiff City (17th) and Crystal Palace (18th) have struggled playing a division up, the Tigers have thrived (though it should be noted that just six points separate them from Palace).
