Manager Chris Hughton said he wants a game fewer in festive fixtures, The Independent reports.
"The Boxing Day match is tradition and is something we're all very much used to," Hughton said, according to the site.
"Now we're entering a period where we play on Boxing Day, on the Saturday and then New Year's Day."
Fulham, coming out of a 4-2 loss to Manchester City, is expected to be the underdog in the match.
Fulham Manager René Meulensteen said he welcomes former Charlton and West Ham manager to Fulham.
"It was something the club had been discussing even before I had joined Fulham so that was always on the cards," Meulensteen said.
"We've been looking for the right sort of person and we are 100% convinced we have found that in appointing Alan Curbishley."
